Business Development Recruitment

MCS Group has been placing business development talent across Northern Ireland for over 30 years. Our consultants understand what genuine BD performance looks like, not just what it says on a CV. The ability to build pipeline from scratch. To prospect intelligently. To hold a relationship through a long sales cycle and close when it matters.

The right BD hire depends on how your business wins business.

From FMCG manufacturers growing retail accounts to technology businesses building enterprise sales teams, every brief is different. We take the time to understand what you sell, who you sell to and where you want to grow, then shape the search around the people who can help you get there.

Built for Businesses That Want to Grow

Business Development That Creates Opportunity

Business development can mean very different things depending on where a business is in its growth journey. From creating the first conversation to owning complex sales cycles and opening entirely new markets, we recruit the people who know how to turn commercial opportunity into something tangible.

We get to know what growth looks like for your business, then find the people with the experience, approach and ambition to help deliver it.

Creating the opportunities that growth starts with.

We recruit BDEs who can prospect intelligently, start the right conversations and build relationships with potential customers. From developing an early commercial track record to taking greater ownership of new business, we look for the drive and communication skills behind the activity.

Owning the opportunity from prospect to close.

BDMs are responsible for identifying and winning new business, from building pipeline and developing senior relationships to presenting, negotiating and closing. We look beyond headline targets to understand the sales cycle, market, customers and commercial results behind someone’s track record.

Creating qualified opportunities from the start.

BDRs typically sit at the top of the sales funnel, identifying prospects, running outbound activity and qualifying opportunities for the wider sales team. We recruit BDR talent for businesses looking for people who can combine consistent activity with strong communication and commercial curiosity.

Taking new business from activity to strategy.

At senior level, the focus shifts towards larger opportunities, new markets and wider commercial direction. We recruit experienced business development and sales leaders who can shape strategy, develop teams and build a more structured approach to sustainable growth.

Hiring Business Development Talent in a Competitive Market

The strongest business development people are rarely sitting on job boards. They are performing, earning well and being approached regularly, which means businesses need a compelling opportunity and a clear brief to get their attention.

We work with organisations across Northern Ireland to understand what you sell, who you sell to, the pipeline someone will inherit or build, and what success needs to look like. That context matters. The right BDM for a long-cycle enterprise sale can look very different from someone driving growth in FMCG or professional services.

Business Development Recruitment FAQs

Key Questions, Answered

We recruit across the full BD spectrum from Business Development Executive and BDR through to Business Development Manager, Commercial Manager and BD Director. We work across technology, FMCG, food manufacturing, media, professional services and financial services in Northern Ireland.

Beyond the CV, we look at what candidates have actually delivered against target, how they have built pipeline in previous roles, what sectors and sale types they have experience in and whether their BD approach matches what the hiring organisation needs. Some of our consultants have BD backgrounds themselves, which means these conversations go deeper than a standard recruitment assessment.

Start by defining what new business actually means for your organisation. Consider the market they will sell into, customer type, average deal value, sales cycle, territory and how much pipeline they will be expected to generate themselves. A strong BDM in one environment will not automatically perform in another, so relevant sales experience and the context behind previous results matter.

The responsibilities vary between businesses, but BDE and BDR roles generally focus on prospecting, qualifying leads and generating pipeline. A Business Development Manager will typically take greater ownership of the sales cycle, including developing opportunities, managing senior relationships, negotiating and closing new business.

Yes. We can help you understand current candidate availability, salary expectations and how your role compares with other opportunities in the market. We can also look at the responsibilities and experience you are asking for to make sure the brief is realistic before you begin recruiting.
