HR Leadership and Executive Search
Leadership that shapes what comes next
Your senior HR hire can shape far more than the people function. The right leader can influence how your leadership team makes decisions, how your culture develops and how confidently your business navigates growth, transformation or change.
Leadership that shapes what comes next
Your senior HR hire can shape far more than the people function. The right leader can influence how your leadership team makes decisions, how your culture develops and how confidently your business navigates growth, transformation or change.

At the Heart of the HR Community
Our partnerships keep us connected to the people, conversations and developments shaping HR across Northern Ireland and Ireland.
An HR Director or Chief People Officer needs to contribute well beyond the HR function.
We work with organisations looking for senior people leaders who can operate credibly with boards and executive teams, connect people decisions to commercial priorities and take ownership of the challenges ahead.
Whether that is transformation, organisational design, succession, culture or building a stronger leadership team, we search for the experience that makes sense for your business.

There comes a point in the growth of a business when HR needs dedicated leadership. Your first Head of HR may need to establish the fundamentals, build the function, support managers, deal with immediate people challenges and develop a longer-term people plan, often at the same time.
We help businesses work through what they really need from that first senior appointment and find HR leaders who are comfortable building something, not simply inheriting it.

Sometimes the business needs experience now.
A senior departure, transformation programme, restructure or period of rapid change can create an immediate need for HR leadership. We place experienced interim HR Directors, Heads of HR and senior people leaders who can understand the situation quickly, provide stability and keep important work moving.

Senior HR Leadership, Shaped by Your Business
Hiring a Head of HR, HR Director or Chief People Officer usually comes at a point when something in your business is changing. Growth has put pressure on the existing structure. A transformation needs experienced leadership. Your management team needs more support. Or HR needs a stronger voice in the decisions shaping the business.
MCS approaches senior HR recruitment and HR executive search around the challenge behind the appointment. We look at what needs to change, what your new HR leader will inherit and where they need to make an impact, then search for people with relevant experience behind the job title.

Scaling a Growing Business
Executive Search SolutionsMore people can quickly mean more complexity. Management capability, workforce planning, retention, structure and culture can all come under pressure as your business grows.
We look for senior HR leaders who have supported growth before and know how to put the right structure around a growing workforce without losing what already works.

Leading Transformation and Change
Why MCS?Transformation asks a lot of an HR leader. Whether your business is restructuring, introducing new technology, redesigning teams or changing how people work, you need someone who can understand the commercial objective while bringing people with them.
We recruit senior HR leaders who have led change in the real world, where decisions have consequences and communication, judgement and trust matter.
-
Building the People Function
Let's TalkFor some businesses, the appointment itself marks a turning point. You might be hiring your first Head of HR. An established team may need a leader who can develop its capability. Or HR may need a stronger voice around the leadership table.
We help you define what that person needs to inherit, what they need to build and the experience required to do both.
-
Succession, Culture & Retention
Explore HR RecruitmentNot every senior HR appointment starts with something going wrong. You may need to strengthen succession planning, develop future leaders, retain key people or make sure your culture keeps pace with the direction of the business.
We search for HR leaders who can turn those priorities into something your managers and employees actually experience, rather than another people strategy sitting on paper.
-
Leading Through Complexity
Meet the TeamA dispersed workforce, complex employee relations, regulation, multiple sites or operations across different jurisdictions can require a very different kind of HR leadership.
MCS looks beyond sector and title at the environments someone has worked in, the level they have operated at and the complexity they have already handled. That gives you a stronger basis for deciding whether their experience will translate into your business.

What People Ask Us About HR Executive Search
How do you find HR Directors and Heads of HR who are not actively looking?
Our senior HR network has been built over more than 30 years across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. We do not rely solely on advertising a vacancy. For executive search assignments, we identify and approach relevant HR leaders directly, including people who may be successful and settled in their current organisation but prepared to consider the right opportunity.
What is the difference between executive search and recruitment?
Executive search is typically used for senior, specialist or business-critical appointments where the strongest people may not be actively applying for jobs. It involves identifying, researching and approaching relevant leaders directly rather than relying on the active job market alone.
What should we look for when hiring an HR Director?
Start with what your business needs the HR Director to achieve. An organisation preparing for growth may need very different experience from one going through restructuring, transformation or succession. Board exposure, leadership style, team size, commercial experience and the maturity of your existing HR function can all shape the right profile.
What is the difference between a Head of HR and an HR Director?
There is no universal distinction. In some organisations an HR Director holds a formal board or executive position, while a Head of HR reports into another senior leader. In others, the roles are very similar. Scope, reporting line, decision-making authority, team responsibility and ownership of people strategy are often better indicators than the title itself.
Do you recruit interim HR Directors?
Yes. MCS Group recruits interim HR Directors, Heads of HR and other senior HR leaders for organisations that need experienced leadership during transformation, restructuring, absence, a permanent executive search or another period of change.
Can I speak to MCS Group if I am not actively looking for a new HR role?
Yes. Some of the most useful career conversations happen before you start actively searching. If you want to understand the market, discuss where your experience could take you or hear about relevant senior HR opportunities, you can speak to our team confidentially.
What Could the Right HR Leader Make Possible?
If you are hiring, tell us where your business is now, what is changing and what you need your next HR leader to help you achieve.
If you are considering your next move, tell us what you have built, what you want more of and where you want your HR career to take you.
We will start there.
