Senior Modern Workplace Engineer / Microsoft 365 Specialist

Location: Magherafelt, Northern Ireland
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 DOE
Employment Type: Permanent or Contract

The Opportunity

An established and growing IT Managed Services Provider is seeking an experienced Senior Modern Workplace Engineer / Microsoft 365 Specialist to take technical ownership of its Microsoft 365 and Modern Workplace offering.

This is an opportunity for a senior engineer to lead the development, standardisation and deployment of Microsoft technologies across a diverse customer base of over 100 managed environments.

The business has already invested significantly in Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Intune, Conditional Access and endpoint management technologies. The next phase is focused on strengthening security, improving consistency and delivering larger cloud transformation projects.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position, offering the opportunity to influence technical strategy, introduce best practices and lead projects from initial design through to implementation.

The business is open to both permanent appointments and experienced consultants or contractors who can provide immediate expertise, with the potential to transition into a permanent position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take technical ownership of Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Modern Workplace technologies across multiple customer environments.

  • Review, enhance and standardise Conditional Access, MFA, authentication methods and identity security policies.

  • Design, deploy and optimise Microsoft Intune solutions, including MDM, MAM, device compliance, configuration policies and application protection.

  • Lead the implementation of Windows Autopilot and modern device provisioning processes.

  • Strengthen Microsoft 365 security through Defender, Secure Score, Purview and wider security best practices.

  • Develop scalable and repeatable deployment standards using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph and management tools such as CIPP and Inforcer.

  • Lead cloud transformation projects, including migrations from traditional Active Directory environments to Entra ID and cloud-managed infrastructure.

  • Reduce customer reliance on legacy domain controllers and traditional on-premises infrastructure.

  • Identify opportunities to improve existing configurations, security standards and operational efficiency.

  • Produce technical documentation, deployment processes and knowledge transfer materials for wider engineering teams.

  • Work closely with internal engineers and customer stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on experience across Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Microsoft Intune.

  • Demonstrable experience designing and implementing Conditional Access, MFA and identity security solutions.

  • Experience with endpoint management, MDM, MAM, device compliance and Windows Autopilot.

  • Good understanding of Microsoft 365 security technologies, including Defender and associated security controls.

  • Experience delivering Microsoft 365 migrations, cloud transformation or infrastructure modernisation projects.

  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities, ideally with exposure to Microsoft Graph.

  • Ability to assess existing technical environments, identify improvements and independently lead implementation.

  • Experience producing technical standards, documentation and repeatable deployment processes.

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with customers and internal technical teams.

Experience within an MSP or managing multiple Microsoft 365 customer environments would be particularly beneficial. However, candidates from enterprise environments with strong technical delivery experience will also be considered.

Exposure to CIPP, Inforcer or similar multi-tenant management and automation tools would be advantageous.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Take ownership of a Microsoft Modern Workplace strategy across 100+ customer environments.

  • Lead meaningful cloud transformation and security improvement projects.

  • Influence technical standards, architecture and future service development.

  • Work with a broad range of Microsoft technologies, with the autonomy to introduce improvements.

  • Join a business investing in its technical capabilities and long-term customer offering.

  • Flexibility to explore permanent employment or an initial consultancy engagement.

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 depending on experience, with consultancy and contract rates considered separately.
