Location: Toomebridge
Salary: £45,000-£55,000
Working arrangement: Office-based
Contract: Permanent, full-time
MCS Group is partnering with a growing multi-site engineering organisation to appoint a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer.
This is an opportunity to become the principal internal owner of a practical, business-critical IT environment. You will initially work alongside the organisation's managed service provider, build a detailed understanding of the existing infrastructure and gradually bring greater technical capability and responsibility in-house.
The role offers significant autonomy. You will be expected to identify improvements, research suitable solutions, present clear recommendations and take ownership from procurement and implementation through to ongoing support.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Administering Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, Exchange, Teams and SharePoint
- Enrolling, configuring, securing and supporting laptops, tablets and mobile devices
- Managing device policies, application deployment, updates and endpoint compliance
- Supporting networking, Wi-Fi, switches, firewalls, VPNs and site connectivity
- Troubleshooting infrastructure, hardware, software and connectivity issues
- Managing hardware procurement, licensing, suppliers and device lifecycles
- Maintaining accurate technical documentation, procedures and asset information
- Working with the existing MSP while gradually developing internal ownership
- Identifying security risks, operational inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement
- Supporting users across office and project-site environments
- Helping establish the technology infrastructure for new European project sites
Occasional travel may be required when a new site is being established. This could involve supporting connectivity, network equipment, Wi-Fi, workstations, printers and other site technology.
What You'll Need
- Strong hands-on experience across Microsoft infrastructure
- Microsoft 365 administration
- Intune and endpoint/device-management experience
- Entra ID or Active Directory administration
- Practical networking knowledge covering Wi-Fi, switches, VPNs and firewalls
- Experience personally configuring and resolving technical issues
- Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, devices and connectivity
- Experience delivering infrastructure projects or technology rollouts
- Confidence working with external suppliers and managed service providers
- The ability to investigate requirements and recommend practical solutions
- A proactive, security-conscious and ownership-driven approach
- Availability to work from the Toomebridge office
- Flexibility for occasional European travel
Desirable Experience
Any experience with the following would be beneficial but is not essential:
- Ubiquiti or UniFi
- Starlink or remote-site connectivity
- PowerShell
- Microsoft Graph
- REST APIs and third-party integrations
- Power Automate
- Infrastructure or business-process automation
- AI tools
- CCTV or access-control connectivity
- Domains, DNS and hosting administration
- Microsoft tenant migrations
The successful person is not expected to be an expert in every technology listed. The priority is a strong Microsoft and infrastructure foundation, combined with curiosity, initiative and the confidence to take practical ownership.
What's on Offer
- Salary of £45,000-£55,000, depending on experience
- A high-autonomy infrastructure position
- Direct influence over the organisation's future IT environment
- The opportunity to build internal capability and reduce outsourced dependency
- Broad exposure across Microsoft cloud, networking, security and project-site technology
- Longer-term scope to help develop an internal IT function
