Senior Frontend Developer

Location: Dublin - Hybrid, 2 days onsite
Salary: Up to €70,000 + benefits

MCS Group is delighted to be partnering with a growing Dublin-based technology company as they continue to invest in their product and engineering team.

They are looking for a Senior Frontend Developer to join a small, collaborative engineering environment where you will be expected to take genuine technical ownership of frontend work from early-stage ideas through to production.

This is not a role for someone who simply wants to receive well-defined tickets and build them.

The team need someone who is comfortable being given a problem, understanding what is missing, shaping the solution with Product and Engineering, making technical decisions and driving the work through to delivery.

The Role

This is primarily a frontend position, working across modern JavaScript applications and delivering new functionality as the product continues to evolve.

There is a strong pipeline of frontend-focused work ahead, and the successful person will take ownership of significant features and areas of the product.

You will work closely with Product, frontend, backend and QA, helping turn relatively broad requirements into clear technical solutions.

That means being comfortable asking questions, identifying gaps, challenging an approach where appropriate and making decisions rather than waiting for every detail to be defined for you.

While frontend will remain your specialism, this is not a heavily siloed engineering environment.

You will not need to be a backend expert, but you should be comfortable understanding APIs, investigating issues across the wider application and occasionally making smaller backend changes where required.

What You'll Be Doing

• Taking ownership of frontend features and projects from early requirements through to production
• Helping shape technical solutions rather than simply implementing predefined tickets
• Working directly with Product to clarify requirements, identify gaps and define how features should work
• Making frontend architectural and technical decisions
• Breaking larger problems into deliverable pieces of work
• Building and developing modern web applications
• Working across React, Vue and modern JavaScript
• Building new functionality while helping modernise existing applications
• Integrating frontend applications with backend APIs and services
• Investigating issues beyond the frontend when needed
• Occasionally making smaller backend changes where appropriate
• Contributing to code quality, maintainability and engineering standards
• Considering security and potential vulnerabilities when building new functionality
• Using modern AI development tools to improve productivity while retaining strong engineering judgement
• Working independently while collaborating closely with the wider product and engineering team

What We're Looking For

The biggest requirement for this role is proven senior-level technical ownership.

We are looking for someone who has already demonstrated that they can take responsibility for a meaningful piece of work without needing every requirement, task or solution to be fully defined for them.

You should have:

• 7-10 years of experience
• Strong commercial JavaScript experience
• Strong experience with React, Vue or another modern JavaScript framework
• Proven experience owning substantial frontend features or applications
• Experience taking loosely defined requirements and helping shape them into technical solutions
• Evidence of making technical or architectural decisions independently
• Experience working directly with Product, Design or other stakeholders
• Strong understanding of APIs and how frontend and backend systems interact
• Some backend exposure or a willingness to investigate and work outside the frontend when required
• Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to challenge or improve an initial approach
• Good understanding of secure development practices
• Experience working autonomously within a product engineering environment
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across a small engineering team

You do not need formal people management or team leadership experience.

This role is about technical leadership and ownership, not managing a team.

You also do not need commercial experience with both React and Vue. Strong experience with one modern JavaScript framework and the ability to adapt is more important.

• PHP backend experience
• Broader full-stack development experience
• SaaS or B2B product experience
• Experience within fintech, payments, identity, security or another regulated environment
• Experience in a startup, scale-up or smaller product engineering team
• Mentoring experience
• Portfolio, GitHub or examples of products you have helped take from idea through to production
