Interim Practice Pharmacist

Are you an experienced pharmacist with independent prescribing experience looking for an interim opportunity within a specialist healthcare environment? MCS Group are delighted to be recruiting for an Interim Practice Pharmacist.

The Role

As an Interim Practice Pharmacist, you will provide autonomous, highly skilled clinical pharmacy, medicines optimisation and independent prescribing services.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will use your clinical expertise to improve the safety, effectiveness and consistency of prescribing, while supporting medication reviews, repeat-prescribing systems, medicines reconciliation, audit and quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services to improve prescribing quality, patient safety and outcomes.
  • Work autonomously within the multidisciplinary team, providing expert pharmaceutical and prescribing advice.
  • Act as an independent prescriber for agreed patient cohorts, working within your scope of practice and relevant governance frameworks.
  • Undertake medicines reconciliation and structured medication reviews.
  • Manage and improve safe repeat-prescribing systems.
  • Assess, initiate, optimise, therapeutically switch and discontinue medicines in line with clinical need and evidence-based practice.
  • Provide pharmaceutical advice in complex clinical situations, including mental health, substance misuse and co-morbid long-term conditions.
  • Lead or contribute to medicines-related audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Use clinical systems and prescribing data to identify risk, monitor outcomes and support service improvement.

The Person

As the successful candidate, you will have the professional knowledge, clinical experience and prescribing capability required to operate as an autonomous pharmacist within a complex healthcare environment.

Essential:

  • Registered pharmacist with current professional registration.
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation.
  • Current independent prescribing status and the ability to prescribe within relevant scope of practice.
  • Experience undertaking structured medication reviews and medicines reconciliation.
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining prescribing competence.
