IT Support Engineer - Managed Services

Sometimes the best time to join an IT business isn't when everything is already established - it's when things are moving quickly.

Following the acquisition of another successful small MSP, this growing managed services business has seen strong traction and is now looking to add an IT Support Engineer to the team.

This is a great opportunity for an IT professional with around 2-3 years' experience who wants to move beyond a traditional service desk role and get genuine exposure to a broad range of technologies, customers and project work.

The environment is cloud-first, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure, Intune, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams and Windows 11. The business is already operating a highly modernised client estate, with the vast majority of supported endpoints managed through Intune and an increasing number of customers moving towards completely serverless environments.

What makes the role interesting?

This isn't a role where you'll be doing the same thing every day.

You'll have the opportunity to move between remote support, project work, client visits, hardware deployment and infrastructure management, depending on what the week brings. You'll work with a varied customer base, get involved in new client onboarding and migrations, and have plenty of opportunity to learn from more experienced engineers.

Even at junior level, engineers get meaningful exposure to projects including:

  • Microsoft 365 migrations
  • Server upgrades and changeovers
  • New customer onboarding
  • Laptop and desktop rollouts
  • Microsoft Intune deployments
  • Network and Wi-Fi installations
  • Cloud phone system deployments
  • Azure and Microsoft 365 projects

Training and development are a genuine part of the role. You'll be given the opportunity to build your knowledge across the company's technology stack, with your responsibilities - and salary - increasing as your capabilities develop.

What will you be doing?

Your week will typically include a mixture of:

  • Providing remote IT support to customers via phone, email and support systems
  • Troubleshooting and managing Microsoft 365 and Windows environments
  • Building and configuring laptops, desktops and other client hardware
  • Supporting the rollout of new equipment at customer sites
  • Assisting with networking, Wi-Fi, switches, routers and cloud telephony
  • Supporting Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune and SharePoint environments
  • Getting involved in migrations, onboarding and infrastructure projects
  • Spending approximately 5-10 hours per week on client sites, depending on workload
  • Helping maintain and improve existing customer infrastructure

The customer base is spread across Northern Ireland, with most travel focused around Greater Belfast and County Antrim.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who already has a solid grounding in IT support and is now ready to broaden their skillset.

You'll ideally have:

  • Around 2-3 years' experience in an IT service desk/support environment - MSP experience is useful but not essential
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft 365
  • Familiarity with Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
  • An understanding of Windows desktop environments
  • Some experience with PowerShell, command line or batch scripting
  • Experience using IT support/ticketing systems such as ConnectWise, Autotask or similar
  • A basic understanding of networking concepts including VLANs, subnets, DHCP and port forwarding
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good attention to detail and a customer-focused approach
  • A genuine interest in technology and a willingness to learn

You'll also need a clean driving licence and access to your own transport, as regular customer visits are part of the role.

The person behind the CV

More important than ticking every technical box is having the right attitude.

We're looking for someone who is curious, adaptable and enthusiastic about technology. Someone who enjoys figuring things out, isn't afraid to ask questions and wants to become genuinely good at what they do.

You'll need to be comfortable switching between priorities - perhaps troubleshooting a Microsoft 365 issue in the morning, building laptops in the workshop after lunch and then heading to a customer site to help with a rollout.

In return, you'll get a relaxed and supportive working environment, exposure to a wide range of technology, strong investment in training and the opportunity to progress as the business continues to grow.

What's on offer?

  • A varied role within a growing MSP
  • Significant exposure to modern Microsoft cloud technologies
  • Hands-on experience across Azure, Intune, Microsoft 365, SharePoint and Windows Server
  • Early involvement in customer projects and migrations
  • Structured support and training to develop your technical skills
  • A relaxed, supportive working environment
  • Salary matched to your existing experience and competencies
  • Clear opportunity for salary progression as your technical capability develops
  • The chance to join at an exciting point in the company's growth
