Environmental Health Officer
Ready to take the next step in your Environmental Health career? This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy Public Protection, Health & Wellbeing team, supporting the delivery of vital environmental health services across the Borough.
MCS Group are proud to be partnering with a leading local government organisation in their search for an Environmental Health Officer. This role would suit an experienced Environmental Health professional looking to apply their expertise across a varied remit, working with businesses, members of the public, statutory agencies and other key stakeholders to protect public health and ensure regulatory compliance.
The Role:
* Undertake inspections, investigations and assessments across a range of Environmental Health functions, including Public Health, Food Safety, Environmental Protection, Health & Safety, Consumer Protection, Private Sector Housing, Licensing, Dog Control and Tobacco Control.
* Investigate complaints, accidents and service requests, determining appropriate action in line with relevant legislation, enforcement policies, guidance and Codes of Practice.
* Apply current Environmental Health legislation to assess compliance and take appropriate enforcement action where breaches are identified.
* Assist with interviews, including those undertaken under PACE, prepare evidence and attend court proceedings where required.
* Provide specialist Environmental Health advice and act as an expert witness where necessary, including in court proceedings, public inquiries, planning consultations and discussions with Elected Members.
* Support environmental awareness, health and wellbeing initiatives, training and campaigns, contributing to wider public health objectives.
* Undertake sampling, test purchasing, reactive monitoring and out-of-hours responses as required by the service.
The Person
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:
Essential:
* A degree in Environmental Health.
* Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
* At least one year's experience in a local government Environmental Health role.
* Experience successfully enforcing and remedying breaches of statutory requirements.
* Competent use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook..
