Data Validation Officer

Ready for your next interim opportunity and want to work with one of Northern Ireland's leading cultural organisations? National Museums NI are seeking a Data Validation Officer to join their specialist environmental data team, supporting the validation and management of important biodiversity records across Northern Ireland.

The Role:

• Validate and verify biodiversity datasets, ensuring environmental records are accurate and ready for import into the Recorder 6 database.
• Work through a backlog of environmental records, accurately preparing and inputting data into Recorder 6 and other relevant systems.
• Support the ongoing management, maintenance and development of CEDaR's environmental databases and data management processes.
• Assist with the development of validation and verification procedures, promoting consistent data collection standards and best practice.
• Liaise with species group experts and relevant organisations to support the verification of environmental records and develop effective professional networks.
• Produce ad-hoc reports and statistics relating to validated and verified environmental records.
• Support the preparation of data for the future migration from Recorder 6 to a new system, helping ensure data is accurate, consistent and ready for transition.

The Person

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

• Degree in Geography, Science, Environmental Science or a related discipline, alongside experience using database applications.
• Proficiency in the use of MS Excel.
• Proficiency in the application of R.
• Experience working with databases, data validation, data management or data processing.

Alternatively:

• Candidates without a relevant degree may be considered where they can demonstrate specific and directly relevant experience of database applications within a similar field.

The Centre for Environmental Data and Recording (CEDaR) is a partnership between the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), National Museums NI and the environmental recording community. CEDaR functions as the Local Records Centre for Northern Ireland, collecting, collating, managing and disseminating environmental data.

The role will contribute to CEDaR's work in maintaining robust and accurate environmental datasets, supporting environmental research, understanding and statutory obligations across Northern Ireland.
