Business Project Manager - Leading Retail Brand

County Antrim | Competitive base salary | Bonus | Flexible working

MCS Group is partnering with a leading Northern Ireland retail brand in the appointment of a Business Project Manager.

This is a unique opportunity to work directly alongside the Managing Director, taking ownership of a diverse range of strategic, commercial and operational projects across the business.

The position would suit a commercially minded and highly adaptable individual who enjoys solving problems, analysing information and turning senior-level ideas into practical action.

The organisation

Our client is a successful, independently owned retail brand with a long-established reputation for quality and customer service.

Operating across the UK, Ireland and international markets, the business manages a diverse product portfolio through retail, wholesale and online channels.

The organisation continues to invest in its brands, systems and commercial operations, making this an exciting time to join and contribute to its next phase of growth.

The opportunity

Working closely with the Managing Director, the Business Project Manager will lead and deliver important projects spanning multiple areas of the organisation.

This is not a narrowly defined project management position. You will become a trusted partner to the Managing Director, taking ownership of varied assignments requiring commercial judgement, detailed analysis and the ability to bring people together.

Projects could involve exploring new markets, supporting retail initiatives, improving business systems and procedures, or analysing sales and product performance across different channels.

You will investigate issues thoroughly, establish what the available data is saying and recommend practical solutions. You will then translate those recommendations into action by coordinating colleagues, managing timelines and securing support from teams across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the Managing Director with strategic, commercial and operational projects.

  • Taking ownership of projects from initial investigation and planning through to implementation.

  • Coordinating cross-functional projects and ensuring timelines, priorities and deliverables remain on track.

  • Developing project plans and providing regular updates on progress, risks and outcomes.

  • Extracting and analysing information from business systems using Excel, Power BI or similar tools.

  • Investigating variations in product, customer and channel performance.

  • Producing clear reports and commercially focused recommendations to support decision-making.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve internal processes, procedures and operational efficiency.

  • Supporting the introduction and implementation of new business systems.

  • Helping departments adopt new processes and securing buy-in for organisational change.

  • Supporting new-market, export, retail, sourcing and product-related initiatives.

  • Improving communication and collaboration across departments.

  • Supporting the Managing Director with additional commercial projects as they arise.

The successful candidate

This position requires an intelligent, grounded and commercially curious individual who can work independently while developing strong relationships throughout the organisation.

You will ideally possess:

  • Previous experience in project management, business operations, commercial management, business analysis or a similarly varied role.

  • A proven ability to manage projects from initial concept through to successful implementation.

  • Strong numerical and analytical capability, supported by excellent attention to detail.

  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence extracting, interpreting and presenting business data.

  • Experience introducing new processes, procedures or systems.

  • An understanding of change management and how to secure support from busy operational teams.

  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.

  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The judgement and credibility required to work closely with a driven and ambitious Managing Director.

  • Experience leading cross-functional activity and holding stakeholders accountable for agreed actions.

A degree in business, management or a related discipline would be beneficial but is not essential. Experience gained within retail, wholesale, manufacturing, distribution or consumer goods would also be advantageous.

Our client is not necessarily seeking someone from a highly corporate environment who will simply introduce standardised best practice. The successful Business Project Manager must understand the importance of finding the best fit for an established, entrepreneurial and fast-moving organisation.

Above all, the company is looking for a dependable, adaptable and naturally inquisitive individual who is comfortable wearing several hats and taking genuine ownership of their projects.

What's on offer

  • Highly competitive salary scale.

  • Bonus scheme.

  • Contributory pension scheme.

  • Life assurance.

  • Company sick pay.

  • Staff discount.

  • On-site canteen.

  • Free on-site parking.

  • Professional development and progression opportunities.

  • Flexible start and finish times.

  • One day working from home following an initial settling-in period.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain significant exposure to senior-level decision-making while delivering projects across almost every area of a successful and evolving retail business.
