Business Development Manager

Belfast | £40,000-£50,000 + discretionary bonus
Hybrid working | Full-time

MCS Group is partnering with a Belfast-based technology business to recruit a Business Development Manager to support its international growth.

Developing software, hardware and engineering services for the global packaging industry, this business helps customers improve design and production processes and tackle sustainability challenges. Its customer base includes major international brands, with an established presence across the US and Europe.

This is an opportunity for a commercially driven sales professional who enjoys opening doors, understanding customer challenges and developing opportunities into long-term business.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Sales, your main focus will be winning new business across international markets. You will also develop existing customer relationships, identifying opportunities to grow accounts across the company's products and services.

Working closely with Product and Engineering colleagues, you will connect customer requirements with technical solutions and guide opportunities from initial conversation through to close.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and approaching prospective customers, partners and new markets.

  • Building a qualified pipeline and converting opportunities into profitable revenue.

  • Managing proposals, presentations, negotiations and commercial discussions.

  • Growing existing accounts through repeat business, cross-selling and upselling.

  • Planning and attending international exhibitions, conferences and customer meetings.

  • Supporting lead generation campaigns and sharing customer and market insights.

  • Maintaining accurate CRM records, forecasts and pipeline reporting.

About you

You will bring a strong track record in new business development and the ability to build relationships with multiple decision-makers.

Packaging experience is not essential. Candidates from other sectors are welcome, particularly those who have sold technical products, software, engineering services or consultative solutions.

You will ideally offer:

  • At least five years' experience in technical sales, business development or a similar commercial role.

  • A degree in Business, Marketing or a related discipline.

  • Evidence of winning new customers and achieving commercial targets.

  • The ability to explain complex offerings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience managing longer sales cycles involving several stakeholders.

  • Strong presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience using exhibitions, trade shows or industry events to generate business.

  • Willingness to travel internationally.

International sales, distributor or channel partner experience would be advantageous, as would familiarity with HubSpot or a similar CRM.

The package

  • £40,000-£50,000 basic salary, depending on experience.

  • Discretionary company performance bonus.

  • Hybrid working: at least three days on-site and up to two days remotely.

  • Flexible working hours across a 37.5-hour week.

  • 25 days' annual leave, bank/public holidays and four additional days between Christmas and New Year.

  • Private medical insurance and healthcare cash plan.

  • Pension with 3% employer contribution.

  • Life assurance, critical illness cover and income protection.

  • Electric vehicle and Cycle2Work schemes.

  • Ongoing learning and development.
