Business Development Manager

MCS are delighted to share an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a growing technology business, focused on winning new customers across Managed IT, Cyber Security, Data and AI.

This is a genuine new business / new logo sales role, ideal for an accomplished technology sales professional who enjoys prospecting, building relationships and converting opportunities into long-term commercial partnerships.

You will be responsible for developing new business across SME and mid-market organisations, identifying customer challenges and positioning tailored technology solutions that deliver measurable business value.

There is no inherited account base or account management responsibility. Your focus will be on finding, qualifying and winning new customers before successfully handing them over to the Account Management and Delivery teams.

You will develop opportunities across three key areas:

Managed IT

Cyber Security

Data & AI

The role will involve selling both recurring managed services and one-off technology projects.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development

  • Own and deliver a personal new business margin and revenue target.
  • Build and maintain a rolling 90-day outbound prospecting plan.
  • Generate qualified opportunities through telephone, email, LinkedIn, events, partner referrals and regional networks.
  • Generate at least 50% of your own sales pipeline.
  • Develop strong relationships with senior decision-makers and turn initial conversations into qualified opportunities.

Sales & Pipeline Management

  • Own the complete sales cycle from initial prospecting through to contract signature.
  • Conduct consultative, outcome-led discovery with IT, finance and executive stakeholders.
  • Understand customer business challenges, commercial objectives and risk before developing solutions.
  • Prepare and present compelling proposals and commercial models.
  • Lead tenders, RFPs and procurement processes alongside bid, presales and solution teams.
  • Use CRM and sales systems effectively to manage opportunities and activities.
  • Ensure deals are commercially viable and aligned with expected margins.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with presales, solution architects, delivery, marketing and technology partners.
  • Develop propositions that address genuine customer requirements.
  • Remove barriers to progressing opportunities and closing business.
  • Ensure a clear and comprehensive handover to Delivery and Account Management following every successful sale.
  • Capture customer, competitor and market intelligence.
  • Identify opportunities for additional CRM, ERP and specialist technology solutions where appropriate.

The successful candidate will be an experienced technology sales professional with a proven track record of winning new business.

  • Minimum 5 years' new business sales experience within technology, IT services, managed services or SaaS.
  • Demonstrable success winning new logo customers and consistently achieving sales targets.
  • A genuine hunter mentality, with confidence in cold prospecting and self-generated pipeline development.
  • Strong consultative selling skills and the ability to communicate business value at both commercial and technical levels.
  • Experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, including MDs, FDs, CIOs and Heads of IT.
  • Excellent organisation, self-motivation and follow-through.
  • Strong pipeline management and forecasting discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites and offices.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience selling managed IT services and recurring revenue contracts.
  • Cyber Security sales experience.
  • Experience selling into compliance-led requirements such as Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001.
  • Exposure to Data and AI propositions, including Microsoft Copilot, data platforms or analytics.
  • Experience using ConnectWise, Dynamics 365 or similar CRM platforms.
  • Experience working with SME or mid-market customers.
  • Knowledge of sectors such as construction, manufacturing, professional services or not-for-profit.
  • An established referral network within the target territory.
