MCS Group are proud to be partnering with the Western Health and Social Care Trust in their search for a Biomedical Scientist (Band 6). This opportunity is ideal for a registered Biomedical Scientist with relevant experience in Haematology, Blood Transfusion or Clinical Chemistry who is looking to develop their career within a busy laboratory environment.

The Role:

• Perform routine analytical and specialist laboratory procedures relevant to Haematology, Blood Transfusion and/or Clinical Chemistry.
• Ensure all laboratory procedures are carried out accurately and in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and UKAS accreditation requirements.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy and clarity across all documentation relating to specimen examination.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures across relevant laboratory sections and work areas.
• Contribute to an efficient and effective quality control programme, ensuring compliance with internal and external quality assurance requirements.
• Receive and undertake analytical tasks on research specimens, maintaining appropriate audit records and procedures.
• Manage and prioritise your own workload to meet the requirements of the laboratory service, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed within required timescales.
• Work collaboratively with Biomedical Scientists, Healthcare Science Assistants, administrative staff, clinical staff, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in risk management processes, report incidents and cooperate with investigations arising from clinical and non-clinical incidents.
• Maintain and develop core practical skills across relevant laboratory disciplines as required to support service delivery.
• Participate in ongoing training, CPD and professional development activities to remain up to date with developments within the profession.
• Participate in the provision of a 24-hour laboratory service, including out-of-hours cover and working independently when required.

The Person

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

• Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
• Completed an IBMS Specialist Diploma, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline.
• At least 1 year's post-HCPC registration experience within the relevant discipline.
• Alternatively, applicants may have been employed as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) in 3 of the last 6 years, with maintained HCPC registration and inclusion on the HCPC register.
• Current full driving licence valid for use in the UK and access to a car on appointment.
• Competence in Haematology/Blood Transfusion or Clinical Chemistry.
• Awareness of Health & Safety requirements within a laboratory environment.
• Demonstrable teamwork, communication and reliability.
• Willingness to participate in the full provision of a 24-hour service and travel between sites as required.

Desirable:

• Previous experience working within a Haematology/Blood Transfusion Laboratory.
• Basic computer skills.
• Evidence of participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong organisational skills, the ability to work independently, effective communication and a commitment to maintaining high professional and clinical standards.
