Matthew Rainey

Matthew is a Specialist Recruitment Consultant at MCS Group, focused on supporting software engineering hiring across Northern Ireland. He partners closely with technology leaders, startups, scale-ups, and established organisations to help them attract and secure high-quality software engineering talent.

His role involves understanding both the technical requirements of a role and the long-term goals of a team to ensure strong cultural and technical alignment. Matthew also supports software developers by providing insight into the local market and helping them navigate their next career move. Matthew specialises in recruiting Software Engineers across Northern Ireland, covering technologies such as .NET, Java, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript, and cloud-based development. He works across a range of environments including SaaS companies, fintech organisations, startups, and enterprise technology teams. 

Matthew focuses on building long-term relationships within the Northern Ireland tech community and staying close to market trends, salary benchmarks, and hiring challenges across the software engineering space. He regularly shares insights on the local tech market and actively engages with developers and technology leaders to understand what teams are building and where the market is heading. 

Before joining MCS Group, Matthew worked at PwC as a Financial Crime Analyst, where he supported compliance and risk-related initiatives within financial services. He then spent several years living in Sydney, Australia, working as a Senior Sales Consultant in the renewable energy sector, specialising in solar energy solutions and helping customers transition to more sustainable energy systems. This role developed his consultative sales approach and client relationship skills, which he now applies in recruitment. 

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys keeping active through running and fitness, travelling, and spending time with his family and friends.
