AI Engineer (Agentic Systems)

MCS Group is looking for an experienced AI Engineer (contract) to join an enterprise AI initiative focused on delivering intelligent automation solutions within a highly regulated environment. This AI Engineer (Contract) will play a key part in the development of a production-grade AI agent. Beyond the initial delivery, you will help establish patterns and capabilities that can be extended across a wider portfolio of AI-driven use cases.

The Role

• Designing and building autonomous AI agents capable of executing complex multi-step workflows
• Developing and orchestrating agent-based systems using modern LLM frameworks
• Building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and enterprise knowledge retrieval capabilities
• Integrating AI services with existing enterprise platforms, APIs and operational tooling
• Working within established governance, security and compliance frameworks
• Producing technical documentation and implementation artefacts to support delivery and audit requirements
• Collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, secure and reusable

The Person

• Extensive commercial Python development experience is essential
• Hands-on experience with LangChain and agent orchestration frameworks
• Experience building and integrating solutions using Model Context Protocol (MCP)
• Practical experience integrating and evaluating Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Experience developing RAG architectures, vector search solutions and knowledge-driven applications
• Strong understanding of API integration and distributed application design
• Experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure-based AI services and enterprise LLM deployments
• Experience working with OpenAI technologies within production environments

Umbrella Rate: £500 - £520 per day
IR35: Inside
Duration: 6 - 12 months
Location: Belfast - Hybrid working
