MCS Group is delighted to be recruiting a SCADA Engineer for our client based in Belfast. This role offers you the chance to be part of a team powering Northern Ireland's energy future.

As a SCADA Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable operation of the electricity transmission system…..keeping homes, businesses and essential services running every day.

Working at the heart of real-time grid operations, you will maintain and enhance SCADA and Energy Management Systems (EMS), supporting control centre activities and contributing to projects that modernise the energy network. This is a role with real impact, both now and for the transition to a more sustainable energy system.

The role:

  • Maintain, configure and troubleshoot SCADA/EMS and associated telemetry systems
  • Ensure real-time data is accurate, reliable and continuously available
  • Investigate faults, resolve incidents and support major system restorations
  • Support commissioning of new assets, including substations and generators
  • Manage system updates, testing and change processes
  • Contribute to system upgrades and wider operational technology (OT) projects
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure secure data integration
  • Maintain documentation, system models and compliance with regulatory and cybersecurity standards
  • Participate in standby and out-of-hours support (24/7 environment)

The successful candidate:

  • HNC / Level 4+ in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, IT, Computer Systems or similar
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA, EMS, telemetry or operational technology systems
  • Understanding of SCADA communication protocols (e.g. IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, ICCP)
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving real-time technical issues
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach
  • Clear communication skills and attention to documentation
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel across Northern Ireland
  • Flexibility for standby and out-of-hours work
