We're recruiting on behalf of a Trust Pharmacy Department for a Band 6 Pharmacist (Rotational post with on‑call), supporting the delivery of safe and effective pharmaceutical care across HSCNI hospital services.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward‑thinking pharmacy team delivering high‑quality clinical pharmacy, dispensing, aseptic services and medicines information support. You will contribute directly to patient care, safe and optimised medicines use, and the Trust's commitment to providing timely, evidence‑based and patient‑centred pharmaceutical services across inpatient and outpatient settings.

The Role

Working as part of the hospital pharmacy team, you will:

  • Participate in dispensary operations, including clinical and accuracy checking of prescriptions and dispensed medicines at both ward and dispensary level.
  • Review inpatient and outpatient prescriptions for legality, accuracy, safety and appropriateness of therapy.
  • Communicate recommendations on drug therapy to doctors, nurses and wider clinical teams.
  • Dispense and supply medicines including controlled drugs, clinical trial medication and aseptically prepared products in accordance with legislation and Trust policies.
  • Provide counselling to patients to support safe and effective medicines use.
  • Support the Medicines Information service, handling enquiries in line with UKMI and local standards under senior pharmacist supervision.
  • Contribute to aseptic and quality control services, including aseptic preparation, final accuracy checks (if accredited), and ensuring compliance with COSHH, GMP and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Assist in the delivery of clinical pharmacy and integrated medicines management services to allocated wards, including completing medication histories, rationalising medicines on admission, medication monitoring and discharge counselling.
  • Prepare discharge prescriptions and ensure timely communication of medicines information to primary care.
  • Support generic switching and therapeutic tendering work at ward level.
  • Act as Responsible Pharmacist when required and help provide cross‑site cover.
  • Participate in shift work, extended hours, weekends, bank holidays and the on‑call rota within required response times.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and annual appraisal processes.

You will play an active role in maintaining safe medicines systems, supporting multidisciplinary teamwork and ensuring high standards of pharmaceutical care for patients and service users.

Key Requirements

Professional Registration:
MPharm (or equivalent) and registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, or eligible to register.
Applications are welcomed from Foundation Training Year pharmacists due to register in July/August 2026.

Other Mandatory Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or ability to meet travel requirements).
  • Ability to participate in on‑call, weekend, public holiday and unsocial hours rotas.
  • Willingness to undertake post‑registration training such as the Foundation Programme, Independent Prescribing or Enhanced Practice Programme.
  • Training in Manual Handling, Information Governance, Fire Safety, Cyber Security and Health & Safety (or willingness to complete upon appointment).

The Package

Location: Hospital Pharmacy Department across Trust hospital sites.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week.
Additional Hours: Participation in on‑call, extended hours, weekend and public holiday rotas as required.
Rate of Pay: £19.78 per hour.
