Are you a qualified finance professional looking to play a key role in delivering impactful public sector programmes? We are seeking a Project Accountant to provide strategic financial leadership, strengthen governance, and support effective decision-making across a high-profile programme.

About the Role
The Project Accountant will provide strategic financial leadership and support to a Programme, ensuring effective financial management aligned with programme objectives. Working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality financial analysis, reporting, and insight to support budgetary control, performance monitoring, and informed decision-making.

The role:

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure accurate tracking of programme income and expenditure
  • Provide financial oversight and guidance to project managers, maintaining strong cost control and accountability
  • Produce timely financial reports, forecasts, and variance analysis, taking action to address risks or overspend
  • Develop and maintain robust financial controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, audit, and governance requirements
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather high-quality financial data and support decision-making
  • Manage audits, financial systems changes, and continuous improvement of financial processes and controls
  • Lead and develop a team, driving performance, workforce planning, and a culture of accountability, improvement, and high-quality service delivery

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential:

  • Qualified accountant.
  • Recent experience in project or management accounting (e.g. reconciliations, capital accounting, budgeting, business cases)
  • Experience working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes
  • Strong organisational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across departments and external organisations
  • Advanced IT proficiency, especially in Excel and financial/accounting systems
