Are you passionate about delivering high-quality, efficient services and driving continuous improvement in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment? We are seeking an experienced leader to oversee the day-to-day delivery of payroll services, ensuring exceptional standards, strong team performance, and effective collaboration across a complex operational setting.

The role:

  • Provide senior leadership for the day-to-day delivery of payroll services, ensuring high-quality performance against SLAs, KPIs, and statutory requirements.
  • Lead, manage, and develop large operational teams, driving performance, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee service delivery planning and implementation, ensuring efficient, customer-focused payroll operations across multiple service areas.
  • Identify and deliver process improvements, system enhancements, and transformation initiatives to improve service efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, resolving service issues and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across internal and external partners.
  • Ensure robust governance, compliance, and risk management, including financial controls, audit readiness, and data integrity.
  • Deputise for senior leadership as required, representing the service in high-level forums and contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential:

  • Degree or relevant professional qualification in Finance/Business, or substantial middle management experience in payroll/finance service delivery within a large complex organisation, along with experience managing teams and delivering results through others.
  • Proven experience working with a range of stakeholders and delivering performance improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, hold teams to account, and work effectively in a high-pressure, customer-facing environment.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and PAYE legislation, with the ability to analyse complex information to support decision-making and service improvement.
