MCS Group is currently working in partnership with a Public Sector organisation to recruit a Environmental Health Officer on a long-term temporary contract (3 months with the view to extension). Excellent hourly rate - £26.62 + benefits.
The Role:
- Contribute to the delivery of an effective, customer-focused and innovative Environmental Health Service, ensuring compliance with statutory and legislative requirements across a wide range of functions.
- Undertake programmed inspections of commercial and domestic premises, applying relevant legislation, codes of practice and statutory guidance, preparing detailed reports and correspondence as required.
- Investigate complaints, accidents and service requests within agreed timescales, recommending and taking appropriate enforcement action in line with delegated authority and Council policies.
- Carry out sampling duties and participate in monitoring exercises including food, air and water sampling, interpreting results and advising on necessary actions.
- Provide professional and technical advice on planning applications and Building Control consultations, assessing potential environmental and public health impacts.
- Prepare reports and responses for management, Freedom of Information requests, court proceedings and committee meetings as required, including attendance at court, public enquiries and planning appeals when necessary.
- Support emergency response activities including major incidents, food safety alerts, pollution events and other out-of-hours service requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to business planning, service improvement initiatives and continuous professional development.
- Liaise effectively with external agencies, Council departments and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and high-quality service delivery.
The Person:
- Relevant degree in Environmental Health or a related discipline.
- Experience undertaking inspections, investigations and enforcement within an Environmental Health or regulatory setting.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental health legislation and good governance requirements.
- Strong report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and work flexibly, including participation in emergency and out-of-hours responses.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintaining accurate digital records.
