Senior Data Migration Specialist (Public Sector)

MCS Group is looking for an experienced data professional for a 6+ month temporary contract with our Public Sector client. This Senior Data Migration Specialist will lead and deliver data migration work-streams across a major system implementation. Working under the direction of a Senior Project Manager, this Senior Data Migration Specialist will play a critical hands-on role in the end-to-end delivery of data migration activities, ensuring smooth and accurate transition from legacy systems to new platforms.
The Role:
- Lead and coordinate the full life-cycle of data migration from multiple business systems.
- Analyse, extract, clean, format, transform, and validate data from legacy systems.
- Manage duplicate and unmatched records.
- Collaborate closely with integration, application, testing, and technical teams to meet migration quality standards.
- Configure and maintain the data migration environment and associated tooling e.g., SQL, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Talend, Informatica (or similar).
- Prepare technical documentation including specifications and migration process records.
- Ensure robust testing and validation processes prior to system go-live.
- Escalate risks and issues through appropriate governance channels.
- Contribute to service transition planning and ensure alignment with best practices.
The Person: Essential Criteria
- A university degree or professional qualification relevant to ICT and at least 3 years' experience in a data migration role involving data analysis, extraction, and transformation
OR
At least 4 years' relevant experience without a degree. - Proven ability to manage and deliver data migration projects involving multiple legacy systems.
- Experience working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of data profiling, data quality improvement, and transformation processes.
- Familiarity with data migration tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, PowerShell, Python, or Azure Data Factory (or similar).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Sound understanding of ICT technologies and best practice standards (e.g. PRINCE2, ITIL).
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working on large-scale health or public sector IT programmes.
- ITIL Foundation qualification.

Contract: 6-Month Temporary Contract
Salary: Starting point on the scale of £46,148 per annum (paid as a rate per hour)
Hours: Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Location: Belfast / Northern Ireland (Hybrid)
