MCS Group are proud to be partnering with a forward-thinking building automation and smart infrastructure specialist to recruit a Business Development Manager based in Northern Ireland.

This opportunity is ideal for a commercially astute, technically literate sales professional who thrives on developing new opportunities, influencing specification at design stage, and positioning data-driven building solutions to contractors, consultants, and end-user clients seeking portfolio transformation.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic revenue growth across traditional BMS installations, refurbishment projects, and advanced Smart Building integrations
  • Develop and nurture high-value relationships with M&E Contractors, Consultants, and Main Contractors while also engaging directly with end-user clients
  • Influence specifications upstream by partnering with Consultants at design stage, positioning modern IoT-enabled and cloud-ready systems over legacy DDC solutions
  • Build and manage robust contractor pipelines, leading the full tender lifecycle from initial enquiry through to contract award
  • Deliver structured client education initiatives, including CPD sessions, to promote Smart Building capabilities such as cloud analytics, energy optimisation, occupancy intelligence, and interoperability
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to produce accurate technical estimates, competitive proposals, and detailed take-offs from M&E drawings
  • Maintain strong market awareness of emerging trends including AI-driven predictive maintenance, SaaS-based building data platforms, and net-zero carbon initiatives
  • Take ownership of revenue performance across projects ranging from £50k small works through to £1M+ major capital programmes

Essential Skills & Criteria

  • Proven track record in BMS sales or technical business development within the UK construction or M&E landscape
  • Strong technical literacy, with the ability to confidently explain protocols such as BACnet and modern networking concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Established network of contacts within M&E contracting, consultancy, and main contractor environments
  • Comfortable discussing legacy and market-leading systems (e.g. Trend, Tridium, Schneider) alongside modern integrations including APIs, cloud dashboards, and wireless IoT sensors
  • Demonstrated success managing long, complex sales cycles with strong commercial acumen and margin awareness
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging operational site teams and senior executive decision-makers with equal credibility
  • Highly proactive "hunter" mentality with disciplined pipeline management and follow-through
