We're recruiting on behalf of a Southern Trust Team for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist within the Haematology Department, supporting essential diagnostic services across HSCNI laboratories.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking team delivering high‑quality haematological and blood science analysis, contributing directly to patient care, clinical decision‑making, and the Trust's commitment to delivering safe, timely and effective diagnostics.

The Role

Working as part of the Haematology laboratory team, you will:

  • Perform a broad range of Haematology and Coagulation investigations appropriate to your training and HCPC registration.
  • Exercise independent judgement and initiative in the application of standard operating procedures.
  • Rotate across relevant laboratory areas within Haematology, including Coagulation, Morphology and Automated Haematology.
  • Participate in a 24‑hour service, including extended days, nights, weekends and public holidays as part of a 37.5‑hour working week.
  • Supervise and support trainees, associate practitioners and support staff within the laboratory.
  • Assist with the development, validation and implementation of new procedures, equipment and quality improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Infection Prevention & Control, Information Governance and Data Protection requirements.
  • Contribute to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and participate in Personal Contribution Plan and Annual Staff Development reviews.

You will play an active role in maintaining laboratory quality standards, supporting effective team working, and ensuring the ongoing confidence of patients and service users.

Key Requirements Professional Registration: Must be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist

Mandatory Training: Candidates should have completed (or be prepared to complete) training in Manual Handling, Cyber Security, Information Governance, Fire Safety, and Health and Safety Awareness.

The Package

  • Location: Southern Health & Social Care Trust sites (e.g., Craigavon Area Hospital, Daisy Hill Hospital).
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week.
  • Additional Hours: Participation in unsocial hours and night shift rotas as required.
  • £19.78 per hour.
