We're recruiting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service for a Band 7 Accountant, supporting high‑quality financial management, governance, reporting and control across one of Northern Ireland's essential emergency care organisations.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward‑thinking finance team providing senior‑level financial expertise across both Management Accounts and Financial Services. You'll play a vital role in ensuring the integrity of financial information, supporting directorates in financial decision‑making, and contributing to NIAS's commitment to safe, effective and well‑governed service delivery.

The Role

Working as part of NIAS's Finance Directorate, you will:

  • Provide specialist financial support to senior managers and budget holders, ensuring effective financial management and robust reporting.
  • Lead the development of business cases and service proposals, delivering accurate financial analysis, modelling and costing.
  • Investigate variances, assess financial risks and contribute to corrective improvement plans.
  • Support organisation‑wide financial planning processes, including monitoring returns, financial plans and monthly reporting.
  • Assist in annual budget setting, budgetary control and routine financial cycles.
  • Provide financial training and interpretation to non‑finance staff across NIAS.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering annual statutory accounts (revenue, capital and charitable funds).
  • Ensure completion of Whole of Government Accounts and TFR E&S returns.
  • Maintain strong financial control systems, including reconciliations, payroll interfaces and contract register oversight.
  • Support procurement and contract management processes in line with governance requirements.
  • Liaise with internal and external audit teams and support implementation of recommendations.
  • Contribute to team development, service improvement and continuous professional development.

Key Requirements

Professional Membership:
Full membership of a recognised CCAB body or CIMA.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year's finance experience post‑qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years working with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrating leadership, governance, people management and organisational skills.

Other Requirements:
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments considered).

The Package

  • Location: NIAS Headquarters, Knockbracken Healthcare Park, with travel to other NIAS sites as required.
  • Band: 7
  • Hours: 37.5 per week
  • Pay Rate: £- (insert your preferred rate)
  • Pre‑employment screening: Standard Access NI checks apply.
