Anne-Marie Imafidon has an impressive and enviable career. Aged 11, she was the youngest girl to pass A-Level computing and at 20 she completed her master’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford.

Imafidon gained a wealth of experience working at some of the world’s biggest companies including  Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard and Deutsche Bank and was exposed first-hand to the barriers and discrimination women face in STEM. It was this that inspired Anne-Marie to co-found Stemettes in 2013.

The award-winning social initiative is dedicated to inspiring and promoting the next generation of young women in the STEM sectors. Stemettes run workshops, public events, and incubators for girls all over the UK, introducing them to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) role models, concepts and careers in a fun, informal and relevant way. Over 60,000 young people across Europe, have been inspired and exposed to Anne-Marie’s hope for a more equal and diverse tech and science industry.

Anne-Marie is an inspiration in STEM and beyond, well-respected in the tech space, and beyond. She was awarded an MBE in 2017 for her work as a renowned champion and inspiration for women looking to find a role in STEM and in 2020, she was named the Most Influential Woman in UK IT by Computer Weekly.

It comes as no surprise that Imafidon has gained such accolades in STEM. Her contributions to the industry are vast, and despite her ascent to STEM stardom, she continues to deliver keynote speeches and workshops across the globe. Her Women Tech Charge Podcast has a cult following, and Anne-Marie’s most recent success was the release of her debut novel She’s in CTRL, a guidebook for women to take back tech. She shared some key takeaways from the book in her talk at the NI Science Fest, which MCS proudly sponsors, including how women have more agency than they think and practical tips on taking control of your career.
