Research Officer - EU Affairs (NI Assembly)

MCS Group are delighted to be partnering with The Northern Ireland Assembly in their search for a Research Officer - European Affairs.
The role.
Main duties and responsibilities are:
- Produce research outputs including research papers, legislative analysis briefings, and blog articles.
- Deliver timely, high quality and impartial research and analysis on Windsor Framework related issues.
- Monitor and provide commentary and analysis on policy and legislative developments which have relevance to the operation of the Windsor Framework
- Develop and maintain up to date Excel spreadsheets tracking the development of Windsor Framework related law.
- Present research briefings to committees in public session.
- Scope research requirements with individual MLAs, Assembly Committees, and the senior secretariat.
- Facilitate public events, such as those which form part of the Knowledge Exchange Seminar Series (KESS) seminar series.
- Develop links across government and external research communities. This includes other parliamentary library and research services.
- Work collaboratively and collegially, as an effective team member.
- Demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative.
- Contribute to the development of RaISe, including improving service delivery.
- Carry out such other duties, as may be required, which fall within the research business of the RaISe; and
- Comply with the Assembly's Equal Opportunities and Dignity at Work policies and procedures.
- You may also be required to carry out other duties that the Assembly Commission requires of you.
The Person
As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:
Applicants must, by the closing date:
- Be in possession of at least a second-class honours degree (or equivalent or post-graduate qualification), in which EU decision making[1] was a key component of the degree;
AND
- Following completion of the above, have at least two years of work experience of:
- Conducting objective, evidence-based research requiring an understanding of EU decision making1.
- Producing and delivering evidence-based findings to help inform discussion and decision making relating to policy development.
AND
- Applicants must also demonstrate an applied knowledge of:
- The Windsor Framework.
- EU information sources, including official EU databases.
* EU decision-making covers the ways in which the EU institutions adopt laws and other policy instruments
