IT Support Officer

MCS Group is looking for an experienced IT professional to work alongside our Public Sector client on a Temporary/Contract basis. This IT Support Officer will join a public sector organisation in Northern Ireland, on a 3-6-month temporary basis, and will play a key role in delivering high-quality IT and telephony support across a diverse and mission-critical environment. You will support systems that directly impact public health and first response services.
The Role
- Provide front-line end-user support and undertake complex fault diagnosis across a range of IT and Radio/Telephony systems.
- Maintain, configure and support:
Active Directory and Email accounts
VOIP telephone systems (AVAYA)
Smartphones/tablets and associated MDM platforms
Network hardware, switches, and firewalls
Citrix remote access solutions - Deliver support via the Help Desk Call Management System and maintain accurate asset inventories.
- Install, test and repair new and existing hardware and software applications in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Liaise with third-party suppliers for the resolution of hardware/software issues.
- Undertake site visits for deployment, maintenance, and emergency repair of IT and Telephony equipment.
- Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to improving IT services and policy.
- Take part in an out-of-hours on-call rota
The Person/ Requirements
- A university degree or equivalent professional qualification in ICT and at least 1 year's relevant experience
OR - HND or equivalent in ICT and at least 2 years' relevant experience
OR - Minimum of 4 years' relevant hands-on ICT support experience
- Demonstrable experience in installing and supporting network-based computer equipment (e.g., PCs, printers, data switches)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft desktop applications and Windows OS
- Practical experience with network troubleshooting, configuration of routers, switches, etc.
- Experience with Help Desk Management Systems and Intranet/Internet Portal Technologies
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload, work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to interpret and explain complex technical data to both users and suppliers
Other Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments made for candidates with disabilities)
- Willingness to participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota
Location: South Belfast and other sites as required
Duration: 3 - 6-month contract
Salary: £15.33 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
