Information Governance Officer

Are you passionate about data protection, transparency, and information rights? This role offers the opportunity to lead on access to information, support compliance with key legislation, and help embed a strong culture of information governance across a fast-paced public sector organisation.
The role:
- Ensure compliance with statutory, legislative, governance, and health & safety requirements.
- Support development and implementation of strategies for information governance and records management.
- Advise on and coordinate responses to information access requests (FOI, DPA, EIR, etc.) across departments.
- Provide operational support on data protection matters and act as a key contact for staff and the public.
- Deliver training, develop policies, and promote awareness of information governance and records management.
- Maintain and update relevant schemes, policies, and web content, ensuring alignment with evolving legislation.
- Foster an information risk culture and support staff through a business partner model across the organisation.
The Person
As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:
Essential:
- A degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant discipline, eg Public Policy, Information Governance, Legal, Business, etc. or extensive experience in the below:
- Assisting in the development and implementing information strategies, policies and management procedures.
- Research and data analysis.
- Handling access to information requests under the data protection, FOI and EIR legislative regimes.
