MCS Group are excited to be recruiting for a motivated Estimator to join a leading civils contractor. This role offers the chance to get involved in all aspects of the role, joining a vibrant team known for its commitment to delivering high-quality projects in the construction and civil engineering industry.

The Role

We are working with a leading contractor based in Dungannon to recruit an Estimator.

You will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for civils and water/wastewater infrastructure, including public realm works, utilities, treatment plants, pipelines, pumping stations, and drainage systems throughout the UK and Ireland. Working closely with the Framework and Commercial Managers and the wider Civils team within the company in a rewarding environment.

You will;

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs. This includes evaluating drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Play a key role in the ECI process, providing cost advise and optioneering solutions during the design process
  • Perform accurate quantity take-offs of civil works (earthworks, pipelines, structures, etc.) from design plans.
  • Analyse potential risks, project challenges, and uncertainties during the estimation process and incorporate contingency plans or pricing.
  • Assist in preparing competitive bids to allow final review.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services. Evaluate vendor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets, ensuring estimates align with client requirements and profitability targets.
  • Maintain detailed records of estimates, assumptions, and methodologies. Prepare estimation reports and provide regular updates to manage project costing.

The Ideal Candidate;

  • Third level degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 3+ years proven experience in cost estimation, with familiarity with water infrastructure or heavy civil construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, CostX, or similar tools).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, water infrastructure components, material, and labour costs.
