We're recruiting on behalf of a Local Government team to add an environmental health officer- A vital role dedicated to safeguarding the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of residents, workers, and visitors across the Borough.

The role:

  • Carry out documentary, identity, and physical checks on imported goods, including fish, HRFNAO, organics, and food-contact materials.
  • Enforce SPS legislation and take appropriate action to ensure full compliance with statutory standards.
  • Conduct investigations, sampling, and prepare evidence for enforcement or legal proceedings.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, port authorities, and industry partners to support effective operations.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to colleagues and new team members.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports to meet audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold Council values through safe, professional, and high-quality service delivery.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential:

  • Qualification in Environmental Health and previous experience.
  • Competence in IT systems, including Microsoft Office applications.

  • Knowledge and understanding of current Environmental Health legislation.

  • A full current driving licence (or access to suitable transport if a disability prevents driving).
