MCS Group are delighted to be working with a large public sector organisation in Coleraine, as they look to add a Building Control Officer to their team.
Key Details:
Coleraine based office.
6 month temporary contract, with a possibility of extension.
37 hours a week.
£38, 626 per annum.
The Role:
- Deliver a high-quality, efficient Building Control Service to meet statutory duties under the Building Regulations (NI) and Energy Performance of Buildings legislation, ensuring buildings are safe, healthy, accessible, and sustainable.
- Provide technical and procedural advice to stakeholders on compliance with Building Regulations, including plan assessments, on-site inspections, and completion certification for domestic, commercial, and industrial developments.
- Assist in the organisations duties under the Disability Discrimination Act through access audits of controlled premises and support for inclusive design.
- Investigate unauthorised works, dangerous structures, and non-compliance, supporting enforcement actions, evidence gathering, and court proceedings where necessary.
- Deliver statutory services including street naming, postal numbering, property certificates, dilapidation investigations, and emergency responses relating to building control matters.
- Offer pre-application consultations, design guidance, and regulatory advice to applicants and professionals to ensure compliance is achieved efficiently and early in the design process.
- Use specialist IT systems to manage and audit Building Control and Property Certificate data, ensuring accurate records and performance monitoring.
- Keep updated with changes to Building Regulations, construction technologies, and best practices to ensure continued compliance and service excellence.
- Liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, departments, fire services, and the public, to support collaborative project delivery and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain and safely use departmental resources and equipment, and contribute to staff development, service planning, and corporate initiatives such as Freedom of Information and data protection responses.
The Person:
- A degree, or equivalent qualification, in a construction related discipline such as Architecture, Building or Civil / Structural Engineering.
- A candidate will also have 2 years experience in the following:
- working within a building/construction role.
- Interpreting working drawings and specifications.
- Applying knowledge and understanding of current Building Regulations to determine the compliance of proposals and successfully enforcing and remedying breaches.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- A full current drivers license.
