We're recruiting on behalf of a local government organisation for a Building Control Officer.
This is a great opportunity to join a respected public sector employer, where you will enforce building regulations and allied legislation to provide an effective and economic service.
The Role:
- Validate and process applications, inspect works, and enforce compliance with the Building Regulations (NI), including approval or rejection of plans, issuing certificates, and managing unauthorised developments.
- Conduct inspections of building work, investigate dangerous structures and public complaints, and compile detailed reports in liaison with relevant stakeholders.
- Enforce statutory requirements through evidence gathering and legal file preparation, attending court as necessary to represent the Council.
- Provide expert advice on regulations, construction methods, and related legislation; participate in pre-submission consultations and stay informed on legislative updates and innovations in the field.
- Maintain accurate records, contribute to statutory returns, manage applications such as regularisation and Building Notices, and assist with street naming and postal numbering.
- Support continuous improvement through business planning, personal development, risk management, and achieving high standards of service delivery in line with Council policies.
- Uphold the Council's core values, health and safety duties, equality commitments, and code of conduct, while contributing flexibly to other responsibilities as required.
The Person:
- A degree or equivalent in an appropriate building related discipline .
- Experience working in a building/construction role.
- Interpreting drawings and regulation knowledge.
