Application Engineer
Location: Hybrid / Belfast (flexible)
Salary: Competitive + benefits
Type: Permanent
I'm working with my client, a well-established and forward-thinking technology organisation, to recruit an Application Engineer to join their growing technical team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working close to both software and infrastructure, and who takes real ownership of application performance, stability, and continuous improvement.
The Opportunity
As an Application Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring business-critical applications are reliable, scalable, and well-supported across development and production environments. You'll collaborate closely with development, infrastructure, and support teams, acting as the technical bridge that keeps systems running smoothly and users supported.
This role would suit someone who enjoys problem-solving, improving processes, and working across the full application lifecycle rather than being siloed into a single function.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting, maintaining, and enhancing business-critical applications
Troubleshooting application issues across development, test, and production environments
Working closely with developers, infrastructure, and third-party vendors to resolve incidents and implement improvements
Monitoring application performance, availability, and stability
Supporting deployments, upgrades, and configuration changes
Contributing to documentation, knowledge sharing, and best-practice processes
Participating in incident management and root cause analysis
Identifying opportunities for automation and optimisation
What My Client Is Looking For
Experience supporting or engineering applications in a production environment
Strong understanding of application architecture and how systems interact
Experience with Windows and/or Linux environments
Exposure to databases, APIs, or middleware technologies
A logical, methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem resolution
Strong communication skills and the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
A proactive mindset with a desire to improve how things are done
Nice to Have (But Not Essential)
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar)
Scripting or automation experience
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or DevOps practices
Experience working in regulated or enterprise environments
What's in It for You
The chance to join a stable organisation with a strong technical roadmap
Meaningful work on systems that genuinely matter to the business
A collaborative, supportive engineering culture
Hybrid working and flexibility
Competitive salary and benefits package
Clear opportunities for learning and progression
