Animal Welfare Officer

MCS Group are working with a large public sector organisation in County Antrim to appoint a new animal welfare officer to the team. This role is a temporary contract until March 2026, with a view of extension.
Key Details:
- 10 month initial contract, with a view of extension.
- Hourly rate of £19.72.
- Travel across County Antrim.

The Role:
Enforce animal welfare legislation in relation to non-farmed animals with appropriate and compassionate action.
Investigate complaints of unnecessary suffering, ensuring both animal and environmental assessments are carried out.
Safeguard animal welfare, including the transport of small animals and arranging veterinary care and boarding where needed.
Provide education, advice and literature to promote responsible animal care and prevent future welfare issues.
Address breaches of animal welfare law in line with legal and Council procedures.
Issue Improvement Notices and maintain accurate records, reports and legal documentation.
Undertake enforcement duties including evidence gathering, preparing prosecution files and attending court.
Collaborate with internal departments and external animal welfare organisations to foster effective partnerships.
Participate in training, meetings and cross-Council duties, including covering staff absences across multiple areas.
Contribute to service planning, pursue professional development and seek efficiency's and innovation in service delivery.
The Person:
2 years experience in an enforcement role in which you have:
- Providing advice and guidance to members of the public.
- Producing written reports to include the writing of statements, maintaining continuity of evidence and preparing legal files.
- Liaising with other public or professional bodies.
- Serving Notices and attending Court Hearings to give evidence.
A full current drivers license to carry out the duties of the role.
