Job Description
The key purpose of this role is to develop and manage a programme to monitor the finances and activities of the charity sector in Northern Ireland. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring information is provided and analysed and appropriate follow up steps undertaken. They will also identify trends and work with the charity sector to improve compliance.
- Analyze charity accounts and assist with financial aspects of investigations to verify compliance and report on unfit conduct.
- Develop and manage the annual monitoring program, including issuing monitoring forms and managing workflows and caseloads.
- Manage the compliance function, supporting charities, conducting preventive monitoring, and taking follow-up actions like investigations or issuing formal directions/orders.
- Stay updated on the latest accounting standards and practices that impact the Charity Commission, such as SORP.
- Provide technical guidance to improve compliance with accounting requirements and enhance understanding of the monitoring process.
- Collaborate with professional advisers and intermediaries to promote and encourage compliance in the sector.
- Participate in decision-making for charity registration and ensure the charity register is updated and accessible.
- Ensure compliance with Data Protection, Freedom of Information, and CCNI requirements regarding documentation and record-keeping.

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:
Essential:
By the closing date for applications candidates must have:
- Have successfully passed the final professional examinations and be a full, current member of a Chartered Accounting body.
- Have at least a total of 1 years' experience, gained within the last 5 years in any one of, or combination of, the following categories - full details including specific dates must be provided:
- (a) Financial Management / Management Accounting.
- (b) Financial Accounting /Auditing.
- (c) Development of Annual Monitoring Programmes.
- Experience of the development & management of a programme of financial work.
- Experience of managing a team to include recruitment, training, coaching, performance management, development and appraisal.
- Experience of analysing information to make decisions.
- Experience of developing good governance practice.
Desirable:
- Experience of charity accounts/charity governance.
- Experience of risk assessment frameworks.
- Experience of forensic accounting.
- Experience of working in a regulatory framework.
- Experience of investigatory practice.
