The Role

We are seeking to recruit a Data Engineer reporting into the Technical Architect. You will be responsible for finding trends in data set and developing algorithms to help make raw data more useful to the Society. The person will also be responsible to understand the Societies sources of data.

The Data Engineer should communicate effectively across the Society and 3rd Parties, translating the more complex and technical information in a simple and accessible for non-technical audiences.

Key Responsibilities of this role:

  • Develop, construct, test and maintain architecture (e.g. Database (MS SQL Server and Oracle) and processing systems (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Document data mapping across the Society. (End to end mappings between systems and processes)
  • Ensure architecture will support the requirements of the business
  • Research opportunities for data acquisition
  • Re-engineer manual data flows to enable scaling and repeatable use
  • Support the build of data streaming systems
  • Write ETL scripts and code to make sure the ETL process performs optimally
  • Develop business intelligence reports that can be re-used
  • Build accessible data for analysis
  • Recommend ways to improve data quality, consistency, and effectiveness.
  • Produce security KPIs reports for different Committees and Board.
  • Support internal and external audits in areas that are relevant to the role.
  • Use automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources
  • When supporting the reporting tools, remove corrupted data and fix coding errors and related problems. Filter data by reviewing reports and performance indicators to identify and correct code problems
  • Working with Software Developers, Engineers, and management heads to identify process improvement opportunities, propose system modifications, and devise data governance strategies.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Computer Science related discipline
  • Strong Experience in database development (SQL Developer)
  • Experience in handling both real time and batch data
  • Demonstrable experience of defining and implementing best practice in data management
  • Strong knowledge in SQL
  • Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and their potential to deliver business benefits.
  • Good analytical approach to problem solving
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and a positive attitude to customer service
