Northern Ireland Water is looking to add a highly driven and experienced Head of Reward, a position that will be a key member of the Senior HR Management team, reporting directly to the Director of People & Learning. Through strong and professional thought leadership, the successful appointee will lead and provide strategic direction in the development across the entire spectrum of pay and reward, including pay awards, grading, pension, allowances, benefits, bonuses, performance and recognition. It is key that the organisations reward strategy is aligned with Northern Ireland Water key objectives and values, ultimately leading to a highly engaged workforce.

Key accountabilities

  • Reward and Benefits - Responsible for defining and managing all aspects of NI Water's reward and benefits proposition, including implementing cost effective ways to drive performance management, managing day to day salary matters, evaluate and recommend salary changes for new employees and evaluate the equality and diversity impact on HR polices relating to pay and reward.
  • Reporting and Communication - Prepare material, information and business cases for the Executive Committee, maintaining close links with other key stakeholders across the organisation, acting as the centre of expertise on pension policy and pay and reward administration.
  • Systems - Provide leadership and direction on the introduction of a new HR system, defining and implementing a strategic approach to HR data analytics, ensuring the provision of strategic HR management information and performance data.
  • People Management - The Head of Reward will lead a team of 10 employees, including payroll, systems and data analytics, as well as taking the lead on performance management processes, ensuring that key processes are communicated across the company and adhered to by line managers.
  • Senior Leadership Duties - As a key member of the senior HR leadership team, the Head of Reward will develop and execute a HR strategy that is aligned to the organisation priorities, contributing to the development, delivery and regular review of the HR strategy, budget planning and workforce plans.

The Person

  • Degree level qualification (preferably Finance, Accountancy, Business or HR related) and
  • A minimum of 5 years' pay and reward management experience at senior HR manager level in a large organisation (800+ employees)


  • Degree level qualification (preferably Finance, Accountancy, Business or HR related) and
  • A minimum 8 years' relevant pay and reward experience at senior HR manager level in a large organisation

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing HR pay and reward strategies.
  • Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience of managing HR team(s).
  • Demonstrable experience of managing change management projects involving complex inputs and outcomes.
  • Highly developed people skills including direction-setting, motivation, change management and developing collective and individual capability within an HR team.
  • Experience of working as part of a senior management team to lead and champion change programmes.
