Head of HR - ICC Belfast I Waterfront Hall I Ulster Hall

The Role

The Head of HR will have overall responsibility for and be the principal advisor to the Senior Management Team on all aspects of human resources including strategy, pay and performance, training and development, CSR, and achieving/exceeding financial, economic impact and client satisfaction targets.

You will be responsible for helping to shape the strategic direction of the business, identifying and developing people and talent in the conference and live entertainment market. This role will have accountability for all areas of People Development, Leadership and Management.

You will represent the business when required, on matters within your own sphere of responsibility with a number of stakeholders, including Trade Unions and the Board, acting as an advisory member of the ICC Belfast I Waterfront Hall I Ulster Hall Senior Management Team.

You will be responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and the leadership team across all business areas. Your role will be to advise and work with employees, managers and the Senior Management Team (SMT) to help build organisational and people capabilities. You will be commercially focused with the ability to shape and implement effective HR strategies and activities, alongside offering advice on the daily operational activities.

As well as possessing strong technical knowledge within the fields of HR, Employee Relations and Organisation Development (OD), key to your success in the role will be a commitment to developing a strong understanding of the business strategy, the trajectory of the organisation, its culture and competition, and developing people solutions that help achieve business objectives, while enabling employees to flourish.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant HR Qualification
  • A minimum of 3 years' HR generalist experience with responsibility for delivering the full range of HR, Talent Development and Training and Development activities in a Commercial Organisation
  • A minimum of 2 years' Senior HR Business Partner experience, with a proven track record of winning stakeholder trust and credibility in a commercial organisation.
  • Able to demonstrate strong employee relations experience with strong influencing skills
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a small HR team and working collaboratively with a Senior Management Team
  • Demonstrable experience of driving improved employee performance through performance management and employee engagement
  • Demonstrable experience in providing advice to managers on discipline and grievance issues and effectively guiding them through the appropriate processes
  • Demonstrable knowledge of employment law relevant to all aspects of the employer/employee relationship
  • Demonstrable experience of designing and implementing HR Management programmes, including for example, training programmes on HR policies and procedures
  • Demonstrable experience of working with and influencing senior management in relation to HR projects, including demonstration of commercial value to the business
  • Experience of working with Trade Unions and negotiating change where necessary
  • Demonstrable experience in budget management
  • At least three years in working in a role which required Board reporting and the ability to ensure HR operations meets Executive requirements.
  • Demonstrable project management skills and a history of successful delivery of change initiatives.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of delivering a HR service at a senior level within a commercial business with multiple locations.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring
