The Role

You will have a small portfolio of personal tax clients to manage, many of which are non-UK domiciled Hedge Fund Managers. This is an ideal opportunity to play an active role in advising clients at a level seldom encountered at this point in a tax career. This role is ideal for someone ambitious who has spent three to four years minimum in a private client tax department working a portfolio of clients. Your client base will be made up of predominantly Hedge Fund Managers working through LLPs.

  • The preparation of Self-Assessment Tax Returns for primarily high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, with the majority of the clients working within the Hedge Fund and wider financial services sector.
  • Providing general support to clients by answering routine compliance queries in connection with their tax affairs by email and telephone.
  • Meetings with clients regarding tax compliance and general tax queries.
  • Spotting planning opportunities, for example, pre-UK arrival and inheritance tax planning, and working with team members on resulting projects.
  • Other ad-hoc duties will include improving systems within the Private Client Tax business and develop knowledge through reading tax literature and attending CPD courses.

The Requirements

  • Hold or be studying towards the CTA qualification.
  • Demonstrate a basic grasp of the mainstream tax issues for private clients- benefits in kind, tax codes, basis periods & overlap, loss relief etc.
  • Not be afraid to research & learn new areas of private client tax such as domicile, remittance basis and residency issues.
  • Have the confidence to deal competently with clients over the telephone.
  • Demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Be positive and want to work as part of a growing team.
  • Be willing to ask questions where there may be a gap in knowledge.
