Looking Back On 2014

18 December 2014

It’s that time of year again where most people will be thinking about final preparations for Christmas, parties and presents! I’ve been lucky enough to write the last blog of 2014 and decided to reflect upon the year itself and some of the big topics. The overall striking observation has been economic growth in Northern Ireland – while there still is some distance to go, this year has presented some exciting signs; this week for example saw the employment level grow at its fastest rate for 17 years, as well as those claiming unemployment benefit falling for the 23rd month in a row.

Closely tied with the economic growth of 2014 has been the recent issue of Corporation Tax. Will this continue or even INCREASE into 2015 if corporation tax is reduced in NI? Certainly there are arguments and case studies which can be utilised for both sides of the debate, something I’ll not get bogged down on here. The main point is that it’s surely an exciting time for candidates and the wider implication of choice for job seekers.

It’s certainly been a great year for the technology sector, and it seems that almost daily a new company has announced the creation of new jobs or is setting up a new office in Northern Ireland. I’ve also noticed a stark increase in start-ups; home-grown companies popping up here and there with exciting, creative ideas and products which are making waves in the technology sector all over the world!

This is where we can help in 2015. We can provide advice on the new companies, the growing organisations and the firms or start-ups which you may not know about. We’ll listen to what you want and provide open & realistic guidance to benefit your career. All in all, it’s been a great year and I’m looking forward to another one spent working with great candidates and companies.
